Learn More About Josie’s Learning Center

Josie’s Learning Center began as part of the Josephine Caring Community (formerly known as Josephine Sunset Home,) in 1985. What started out as a small group of children in one room has, years later, grown into a center that serves a multitude of families in the Stanwood/Camano community and beyond. Josie’s Learning Center (JLC) is proud to have families trusting us with their loved ones generation after generation, and we often see former students return with their children years after they have left our care.

Over the years, JLC has adapted our programs to better serve our community. As of 2024, we offer full-time childcare services for children ages 4 weeks to 12 years old in our childcare, Montessori, School Age and ECEAP programs. Children in every age group spend their days learning through play-based activities that teach them the skills they need to progress and interact with the world around them. JLC feels strongly in encouraging the development of social/emotional skills in children such as identifying emotions, self-regulation, learning to appropriately interact with others, and learning to solve problems. These skills, and many others that fall under the social/emotional umbrella, have been proven to help set children up for success in both school and beyond.

As part of the Josephine Caring Community (JCC,) we are fortunate to be able to take an intergenerational approach to our program and encourage the interactions between children and the residents of The Suites and Meadows. Studies have shown that both children and adults benefit from an intergenerational program like the one at JCC. Children are given the opportunity to engage with people of different ages, abilities, backgrounds and cultures that they may not be exposed to otherwise. They learn tolerance, compassion, and get to experience more chances for rich conversations and vocabulary. The benefits are not just for the young, however. Time spent with the younger generations has been shown to stave off cognitive decline and support better health and social engagement amongst adults.

(n): A song singing, smile bringing, child chasing rockstar who lives to inspire and loves to encourage. They’re kind of a big deal.

At Josie’s Learning Center, we are so fortunate to have staff members who are passionate about creating a nurturing, inviting environment for all the children and families we serve. Many of our staff members have been with us for over 10 years, including our Director and Assistant Director who have been a part of the program since 1988!
